Top Upcycled Pallet Projects

One of the top upcycled project trends going on lately involves wood pallets. They are very versatile with what you can do with them, so they can work for indoor and outdoor projects.  Many times you can get them for free which makes them even more appealing. Here are my favorite wood pallet projects I found on the internet…

DIY Rolling Compost Bin

Rolling ComposterWe’ve been composting for years however we were using the throw it all in a pile in the garden method. Which after recently reading and researching I found out your compost will actually decompose faster if it is mixed around.{rather then just sitting still in a big pile} Plus apparently it lets off less gases into the air since it can “breath” rather then getting built up and trapped inside the big pile. So after my heavily Google researching I decided that we should buy a rolling composter. That idea was quickly shot down when I realized that a rolling composter was going to be $100+!! Therefore I decided that I would just make my own and that I did!

  • Bucket with lid that screws on {so it wont fall off}
  • Dirt
  • Worms
  • Drill
  • Table scraps {Veggies, Fruit, etc. compost safe items}
  • Water
Compost bucketFirst drill holes evenly around your bucket, I used a 3/16 drill bit. {including the bottom & lid}
Compost dirtNext add a layer of dirt to your bucket so it fills it up about a fourth of the way.  READ MORE >>>

Monster Chewy Granola Bars

Monster granola barsIn our house granola bars are a staple. They are easy for kids to grab for a snack or even keep them in your purse for quick bite to eat while out. Plus since I’ve starting making them rather then buying store bought brands I have the comfort of knowing what I am putting in them. The kids had been craving sweets and asking for cookies, ice cream… you name it. So an alternative I quickly thought of was just making some granola bars but adding some chocolates to satisfy their sweet tooth. And you know what? It worked! The kids loved the little added touch of chocolates and no more “Can we have something sweet?” Here’s how I made them…

  • 1 1/2 cup Rice Krispies
  • 2 1/2 cup Rolled Oats
  • 1/2 stick of Butter
  • 1/2 cup Light Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1 tablespoon Peanut Butter
  • 1/4 cup Chocolate Chips
  • 1/4 cup Mini M&Ms
Granola-Bar-homemadeFirst bring butter, light brown sugar, and honey to a boil. Let it boil until all the grains of sugar are dissolved then stir in the peanut butter.
Chewy-Granola-BarsOnce the peanut butter is mixed in and melted pour over oats and Rice Krispies in a mixing bowl. Mix so all the dry ingredients are mixed with all the wet ingredients then let cool slightly, to avoid the chocolate from doesn’t all melt.
Chewy Granola Bar recipeThen mix in chocolate chips and mini M&Ms before pouring into a foil lined baking dish. {I added some non stick spray to the foil to avoid any extra mess}
Monster Granola BarsLet cool for about two hours then cut & serve! Enjoy!

Being Green With Bigelow Tea

Disclosure: I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias® and Bigelow Tea #CBias #SocialFabric #AmericasTea

As I said last week, one of the things I am trying to be better at is being healthy… all the way around in life. So with that being greener is on the list. I’ve been paying more attention to the products that I am using around the house & trying to make more eco friendly choices. One product that I’ve been using for years is Bigelow Tea and after a little research I found that they are actually a sustainable company! The family owned company works hard to insure they not only produce recyclable & biodegradable products but to eliminate waste in their facility by being a “zeo waste” company. After looking on their website at all the ways they are being green to help preserve mother nature it inspired me to do a little Earth Day project with Miss.A.

Garden Bigelow Teacompost Bigelow TeaSo we headed to Walmart to pick up of course some Bigelow Tea and gardening supplies. {click here to see our whole shopping adventure} To get Miss.A more excited about getting dirty in the garden I let her pick out a pair of gardening gloves & a new hand shovel to help dig. Plus she got to pick out her very own plant for the vegetable garden, a banana pepper plant. {her favorite} We also picked up a variety of Bigelow Teas to have a refreshing drink after being outside. {it’s been nearly 100 degrees here so something refreshing is a must} Once she had her new “baby” {the banana pepper plant… she’s been very protective of it making sure it survives} in the garden. We worked on our new composter for all our kitchen scraps. We used to just throw them into a pile however I recently realized that they will compose faster if they are able to be tossed/mixed. So we built our own {I’ll share how we did that later this week} it was so simple and a great way to help explain to kids what composting is. One of the great things about Bigelow Tea is that most of their tea bags are staple free. Since tea bags are biodegradable this makes them super easy to compost since we can just throw them in our bucket without having to remove any non compostable parts.

drinking bigelow teaAfter our gardening fun & a quick swim to cool off we had a mini tea party to finish our Earth day festivities. It was a perfect and refreshing way to end our day outdoors together.

Did you do anything fun for Earth Day?

Steps To A Healthier Lifestyle

I’ve always worked towards being healthier whether its exercising or using non-toxic cleaners. However many times life gets in the way and you get off path… am I right? Staying on track can be hard especially when we live in a go go fast pace world. Recently my mom who isn’t yet 50 had some serious health issues that we {the public} usually associate with people 65+ which made me realize life really is short and we need to really take care of ourselves. So I am now working even harder to find a balance to live a healthier lifestyle all the way around and finding ways to help keep myself accountable so I stay on track. One of the ways I found to keep myself accountable is using Walgreens new Steps with Balance Rewards program!

With Walgreens Steps program you can use it on the computer or even download the app on your iphone or ipad. Which makes all the difference in the world for me, in order to keep on track I need something that can travel with me and is easy to use on the go. The big kicker for the program and to keep on track is that you earn money for logging your steps! For every mile you walk/run you earn 20 points on your Walgreens Balance Rewards card, log your weight for the day and you can earn another 20 points!

After I signed up I noticed that you can sync devices such as the FitBit to your account. I had been wanting one for awhile so I did a little research and decided that a FitBit would A. make life easier not having to log my miles each day on the app because it automatically does it for you and B. Throughout the day it would be a great reminder to keep moving. So I went on Walgreens website and ordered the FitBit One, within 5 days it was in my mailbox. {gotta love online shopping, click here to see my shopping experience} The bonus was I earned 250 points just from syncing it with my Steps account!

Within just a few weeks of daily walking and weighting in I was able to earn more then 1,000 points that can be redeemed as $5 instore cash once you hit 5,000 points. For me, getting paid to get healthier has helped me stay on track and accountable which is hard to do. It’s really a no brainer if you too are looking for incentives to get healthier! Once I hit my 5,000 points I think I’ll use it to buy some healthy snacks, what would you use your hard earned Balance Rewards points on?

On top of all the great things I’ve already mentioned about the Steps program. Walgreens is also giving away some great prizes everyday, from Redbox free rentals to a new FitBit! Be sure to stop over here and enter daily to win some amazing prizes! Also stop over and see how other bloggers are using Steps with Balance Rewards.
